Overall rating: 71%
The 307 was a big leap forward over the 306 in terms of safety, packaging and equipment; now it's been superseded by the 308, the model still has much to offer – as long as you can find a good one.
1: Looks
Even the unitiated would have no trouble spotting the Peugeot corporate nose on the 307, but there's nothing cute about the 307's lines; it doesn't carry the timeless appeal of earlier Peugeots.
6/10
2: Looks inside
The 307's interior is spacious and well equipped, and well put together, but some materials feel cheap; there are plenty of toys to distract your attention though.
6/10
3: Practicality
The five-door hatch offers reasonable practicality; the boot can stow 341 litres with the rear seats up, or 1328 litres with them down. Rear leg room is poor but head room is fine.
8/10
4:Ride and Handling
The 307 rides brilliantly and the handling is good too. If comfort is your priority, the 307 is one of the best in its class; if handling is more important look at a Ford Focus.
8/10
5: Performance
The 1.6HDi can offer 110bhp (there's a 90bhp edition too) to give 117mph and 0-60mph in 11.1 seconds, thanks to its 180lb ft of torque – ample for everyday motoring.
