The 3008 enters a market which the Nissan Qashqai previously enjoyed to itself. But with growing demand for spacious MPVs with a quasi-off-road look, more models are entering the market.

1. Looks
The 3008 follows the company's well-trodden design ethos; a gaping grille, snouty nose, pronounced wheelarch flares and curvy rear lights. Few would call the 3008 pretty, but then neither is the Qashqai.
6/10

2. Looks inside
The cabin is the best in a Peugeot in ages, in terms of design and quality. The solid, well laid out switchgear and huge centre console are excellent, but the console does reduce interior space.
8/10

3. Practicality
Space and practicality are good; the 512-litre boot is bigger than most rivals' and the split-opening tailgate makes loading simple. A three-level adjustable boot floor is ingenious while head, leg and shoulder room are first rate.
10/10

4. Ride and Handling
Comfortable and easy to drive, the Peugeot 3008 makes for an exceptionally able if unexciting companion. Long distances are swallowed easily with a cosseting ride and good refinement. Light steering makes parking easy too.
8/10

5. Performance
The 1.6-litre 110 HDi engine is a strong performer, enabling the 3008 to cover 0-62mph in 12.2 seconds and achieve a 112mph maximum.
8/10

6. Running Costs
The 3008 is good value while low emissions help the wallet, especially the diesels which emit less than 150g/km. All 3008 diesels (163 apart) return 50mpg+, insurance groups are low, but depreciation is likely to be stiff.
8/10

7. Reliability
Peugeot doesn't have the best reputation for build quality; the Reliability Index rates it highly but the 2009 J.D. Power survey ranked Peugeot 24th out of 29. The 3008 feels well built though, and the engines are proven.
7/10

8. Safety
The 3008 has a five-star EuroNCAP rating; all versions get six airbags, seatbelts with force limiters, ESP and hill-hold. Optional equipment includes directional headlights and a head-up display.
10/10

9. Equipment
All 3008s have alloys, front fog lights, electric front windows and air-con. The Sport adds parking sensors, cruise control with speed limiter, an MP3-compatible audio system, height-adjustable passenger seat and a leather steering wheel. The Exclusive also features a full-length glass sunroof, automatic headlights and mirrors, head-up display with distance alert, tyre pressure monitoring and climate control.
9/10

10. X-Factor
The Peugeot 3008 marks a return to form for the French car maker. It has one of the best interiors in its class, is superbly practical and easy to drive. It's well worth a look.
