These are the first pictures and details of the Citroen DS4, the family hatchback in Citroen's new DS line of models.
Following in the footsteps of the successful Citroen C3-based DS3 supermini, the DS4 is an adaptation of the forthcoming Citroen C4.
It features 'hidden' rear doors to give it the looks of a three-door coupe, and has a panoramic windscreen, which stretches back into the roof. There's a 370-litre boot, which offers 50 litres more luggage space than the outgoing Citroen C4 and 20 more than the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
LED daytime running lights, chrome-tinted window surrounds, a rear spoiler, new bumpers and large alloy wheels (up to 19-inch) set the DS4's exterior apart from the standard model.
Inside, there are leather seats with enough room for five occupants, chrome details, ambient cabin lighting and aluminium pedals. Special attention has also been paid to reducing interior noise with improved sound proofing.
The DS4 will be launched with five engines, including two HDi diesels with 110 and 160bhp. The 110bhp version can be specified with Citroen's e-HDi package, which includes stop and start and an electronic gearbox, to improve fuel economy.
Three petrol engines with power outputs of 120, 155 and 200bhp will be available, giving the family-sized Citroen a more sporting edge than before. The range-topping 200bhp model produces just 149g/km of CO2 emissions, meaning the DS4 should also be cheap to tax.
The Citroen DS4 makes its debut at next month's Paris Motor Show, and goes on sale in 2011.
