The Volkswagen up! order books opened on October 7, with prices starting from £7,995 for the entry-level Take up! trim level.

All models are fitted with a 1-litre petrol engine with either 59 or 74bhp as well as a BlueMotion Technology version tuned for economy.

The Take up! is fitted with basic features including body-coloured bumpers, daytime-running lights, front and side airbags, CD and radio with Aux-in, rear ISOFIX points and 14-inch steel wheels.

Costing from £8,970 the Move up! is the real entry-level model, with key equipment, including remote central locking, air-con, electric front windows, easy-entry seats, height-adjustable driver's seat, variable-height boot floor, 60:40 split/fold rear seats and body-coloured door mirrors and handles.

Add £360 for BlueMotion Technology and you get stop and start, battery regeneration and low rolling resistance tyres, reducing CO2 emissions from 105 to 97g/km, making it exempt from road tax.

Top of the range is the High up! with a price of £10,390, fitted with heated front seats, leather steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake, electric heated door mirrors, front fog lights, sat-nav, customisable dashboard colour and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Based on the High up!, two special editions called up! Black and up! White - from £11,180 - add black pearl or white metallic paint, chrome door mirror caps, 16-inch alloys, body-coloured dash, enhanced upholstery and carpet mats.

The UK's first Volkswagen up! deliveries are expected in Spring 2012. Its sister car the SEAT Mii is due to arrive at the same time, while the Skoda Citigo is expected in Summer 2012.
