The Volkswagen Scirocco is being offered with a new 1.4-litre petrol engine. The entry-level unit offers 122bhp and CO2 emissions of 146g/km, making it the cleanest petrol engine available in the Scirocco.

However it is the slowest Scirocco available, managing a top speed of 124mph and 0-62mph in 9.7 seconds. The reduced performance helps it achieve a combined fuel economy figure of 44.1mpg.

It slots in below the 160bhp 1.4-litre, which emits 154g/km (147g/km with the Direct Shift Gearbox). The new engine is priced at £18,860 which is £800 less than the 160bhp model.

Meanwhile the Scirocco GT is now being offered with a new styling pack. The £950 'Lugano Black' package offers 10-spoke 19-inch 'Lugano' alloy wheels in gloss black and more black decorative inserts inside the car.
