These are the first pictures of Volkswagen's sexy new hybrid coupe. The Volkswagen New Compact Coupe (NCC) will sit between the Scirocco and Passat CC in VW's model line-up when it arrives in Europe.
Unveiled today at the North American International Motor Show in Detroit, the Volkswagen Jetta-based coupe boasts impressive eco-credentials as well as good looks.
Volkswagen claims it can return 67mpg on the combined cycle, while emitting just 98g/km of CO2. And it's no slouch, hitting 62mph from rest in 8.1 seconds and reaching a top speed of 141mph.
The hybrid powertrain combines Volkswagen's 148bhp TSI 1.4-litre petrol engine with a 27bhp electric motor, lithium batteries and seven-speed DSG semi-automatic gearbox.
At low speeds the Volkswagen NCC can be powered by just the electric motor and batteries, making the coupe a full hybrid vehicle.
Inside, the NCC is a four-seater with two individually sculpted rear seats and a 380 litre boot. The concept car interior features an eight-inch touchscreen located in the centre of the dashboard and attractive - but unlikely for production - white and grey materials covering the seats and dashboard.
There are currently more than 500 used Volkswagen Jettas for sale on Auto Trader.
