A green Volkswagen Eos has been unveiled - and it's the company's first BlueMotion model to feature a petrol engine. Featuring an ultra-efficient 1.4-litre TSI engine, the 120bhp Volkswagen Eos improves on the previous 1.4 TSI with CO2 emissions cut from 152 to 144 g/km, giving a fuel consumption figure of 45.6 mpg and taking the model down a car tax band, saving £25 a year.

The BlueMotion Eos - a four-seat convertible coupé - features a six-speed manual gearbox and comes with energy-saving features to maximise efficiency and improve fuel economy.

These include regenerative braking, which captures some of the energy lost during braking, to top up the car's battery, and start-stop, which cuts power to the engine when the car is stationary. There's also a visual gear change recommendation to encourage more efficient driving.

The Volkswagen Eos BlueMotion is available to order in two trim-levels, with prices starting from £20,695. All cars get ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), twin front and side airbags, air conditioning, fog lights, electric windows, electric heated wing mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels and folding hard-top with sliding sunroof.

For an additional £1,100, Volkswagen upgrades the alloys to 17-inch and adds front sports seats, parking sensors, and automatic headlights and rain sensors.
