The first pictures and details have been released for the Volkswagen CC, the four-door saloon which has now had 'Passat' deleted from its name.

The exterior and interior have been given a thorough overhaul, bringing the CC in line with the family look of the latest VW models.

It gets a bold new nose with a grille featuring chrome horizontal bars, new air intakes and fog light surrounds and headlamps with LED daytime running lights. A sculpted bonnet and LED rear lights complete the exterior remodelling.

The petrol engine range comprises a 1.8-litre with 158bhp and 2-litre with 207bhp. Volkswagen's 2-litre diesel is also available with 138 or 168bhp. Models with 168bhp or more get XDS as standard, an electronic differential which distributes power between the front wheels for maximum traction.

New options will include automatically dipping headlights, blind spot monitoring, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, City Emergency Braking, front climate seats with massage function and a folding electric towbar.

The Volkswagen CC makes its public debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show on 18 November, before going on sale in the UK in 2012.

It has proved a successful model for Volkswagen, with 270,000 sold globally since its introduction in 2008.
