These are the first images of the Vauxhall Mokka, which incorporates rugged 4x4 looks with higher ground clearance and integrates them into a stylish compact B-Segment family car.

It's Vauxhall's first model in the popular crossover segment, taking on rivals such as the Nissan Juke, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Yeti and Mini Countryman.

Despite being just 4.28 metres long, Vauxhall claims the Mokka can seat five in comfort with an interior offering user-friendly functionality and providing up to 1,372-litres of load space and 19 storage locations.

A choice of engines will be available - all with fuel-saving stop/start technology. The petrol line-up includes a 113bhp 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine and a 138bhp 1.4-litre turbo. Diesel power is courtesy of a 128bhp 1.7-litre CDTI turbo. An automatic transmission is available on the 1.4-litre Turbo petrol and the 1.7-litre CDTI.

The new Mokka will be available with front- or four-wheel drive. The optional four-wheel drive system offers higher levels of stability and grip by transferring power to the wheels with the most grip.

Available on the Mokka are a number of driver assistance safety systems including Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert plus front and rear parking cameras.

Standard on all models are Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control (TC), as well as Hill Start Assist (HAS) and Hill Descent Control (HDC).

The Mokka will be available at dealerships towards the end of 2012, although Vauxhall hasn't yet announced specific dates or prices.
