A practical Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer will join the new hatchback, which has already racked up 30,000 sales in the UK.

Available to order from October, the load area has been extended by 28mm and boot space increases to 500 litres (a 30-litre improvement).

Flat wall linings, flex fold 60:40 splitting rear seats and a flat load area give a maximum capacity of 1,550 litres with the rear seats folded down.

The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer will be available with 99, 113 and 138bhp petrol engines and 108, 123 and 158bhp diesel motors.

A start and stop-equipped ecoflex model will be available soon after the initial launch, with low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Vauxhall claims it wanted to achieve the same handling and ride quality of the hatchback, and the only changes have been to the rear suspension, increasing its load capacity.

Adaptive flex ride suspension is available as an option, with Standard, Tour and Sport mode adjusting suspension and engine settings depending on conditions and driver preference.

Ergonomic front seats, trailer stability assist and adaptive bi-xenon headlights are also amongst the latest options available from Vauxhall.
