Toyota has issued a safety recall for 1.7 million cars worldwide, due to a possible fuel leak problem.
The recall includes 15,500 Avensis and 3,100 Lexus IS models in the UK, and is caused by two separate issues.
There have been no reports of accidents in the UK, and no complaints relating to the Avensis, however there has been one complaint relating to the IS.
The first recall affects some 2-litre and 2.4-litre petrol Avensis models built between July 2000 and September 2008, and involves a possible fuel leakage, where small cracks could develop in the fuel pipe over a long period of time. If the problem goes untreated, it can cause fuel to leak.
The second recall affects IS250 models built between August 2007 and February 2009, and involves a potential fuel pressure sensor problem. If the sensor loosens, it could cause fuel to leak.
Concerned owners can call their local dealership for further information but all those affected will be contacted by Toyota.
The recall work should take between one and four hours to complete at no cost to the owner.
Jon Williams, managing director of Toyota GB, says, "We will liaise with our customers to carry out the repair procedures as efficiently as possible, with minimal disruption."
Toyota has now recalled almost 12 million cars worldwide in the past 18 months, spanning 14 separate recalls last year.
