Toyota has recalled up to 1.8 million cars because of a safety problem. Eight Toyota models have been affected by what the Japanese car maker describes as a "potential accelerator pedal issue."
The total number of affected cars has not been announced, but it may be as much as 1.8 million. There have been reports of accelerator pedals becoming hard to depress, slow to return and in rare cases getting stuck.
Toyota has discovered a remedy for the fault and will be contacting owners once the fix has been fully tested.
Toyota says "only a limited number of incidents have been reported in Europe", and is not aware of any accidents caused by the faulty pedals.
