The Toyota FT-CH hybrid supermini concept has been unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show. The concept is a hybrid five-door four-seater that will be lighter, cheaper and more fuel-efficient than the current Toyota Prius.
The FT-CH concept - the FT stands for "Future Toyota", CH for "Compact Hybrid" - is 22 inches shorter and an inch narrower than the Prius, and is targeted at younger, less-affluent buyers.
The FT-CH concept is the first step towards fulfilling Toyota's ambitious goal of selling a million hybrids every year around the world.
Toyota is planning to achieve this by launching eight all-new hybrid models over the next few years. Plug-in hybrids (PHVs) and battery electrics (EVs) will be introduced in late 2011, whilst hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCHVs) will follow in 2015.
Reports suggest the Toyota FT-CH concept is currently being considered for production.
