The electric Tesla Roadster sports car is now on sale in the UK with right-hand drive. As well as moving the driving position over to the right-hand side of the Lotus Elise-based Roadster, Tesla has made other changes to UK cars.

Improved sound-deadening and an upgraded stereo are intended to increase refinement and comfort for well-heeled commuters. And they'll need to be well-heeled as prices start at £86,950.

Running costs will be low, however, with Tesla claiming that the Roadster costs just 1.5p per mile to run. Drivers are also exempt from the London Congestion Charge, road tax and the upcoming showroom tax of £950.

Certain areas of the capital also offer four hours' free charging at parking sites. Alternatively, it can be charged from a conventional power socket.

A full charge is claimed to last for at least 200 miles of mixed driving. And with a top speed of 125mph it's one of the few electric cars that can easily travel at motorway speeds.

The UK-specification, right-hand-drive Tesla Roadster is available to order now from the company's only dealership in the upmarket Knightsbridge area of London or online at teslamotors.com
