This is the Subaru Impreza STI CS400 - or the Subaru Impreza Cosworth as it will undoubtedly become known - of which just 75 will be built.
Built by Formula 1 engine supplier Cosworth, the STI CS400 is a heavily modified version of the standard Impreza which it's fair to say has received a lacklustre reception since its introduction two years ago.
With beefed up internals, a modified turbo, new exhaust and remapped ECU, the Cosworth's 2.5-litre flat-four engine now produces 395bhp - 99bhp more than the standard STI. Torque is similarly impressive at 398 lb-ft.
The result is a 0-62mph time of just 3.7 seconds, which is 1.5 seconds quicker than the WRX STI and two faster than a Ford Focus RS. Top speed is limited to 155mph.
However it's the 'normal' Impreza STI's soft handling which has received the most criticism, something Cosworth has gone to great lengths to rectify. New, stiffer, 10mm lower springs and dampers, a 10mm wider rear track and AP Racing 355mm front brake discs clamped by six-piston callipers should mean that it stops and steers as well as it accelerates.
Despite the hardcore engine and chassis updates, Cosworth is adamant that the CS400 isn't an impractical track-day special and has been specifically developed for road use.
A subtly modified exterior available in silver, red or grey with multi-spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and a light smattering of Cosworth badges are a long way from the huge wings and brash colour schemes of previous Subaru specials.
The interior has also been spruced up, with leather upholstery and piano black dashboard inserts.
So how much will it cost to park one of these very special Cosworth Impreza CS400s on your driveway? A hefty £49,995.
