Stunning Mazda MX-5 Spyder

Mazda has unveiled an MX-5 Spyder concept car at the LA Motor Show this week.

Based on the current model, the Spyder has a lower windscreen and new roof which stretches almost horizontally back onto the rear boot deck, leaving just enough room for a tiny rear window.

It's a similar look to the Porsche Boxster Spyder, which won over critics and customers when it went on sale in 2010.

With a stripped-out interior, low ride height and sleek profile, the MX-5 Spyder should be faster than the standard model.

It's fitted with a 2-litre petrol engine and has a bespoke interior including a body-coloured dashboard and leather seats.

A Mazdaspeed body kit, metallic white paintwork and black 17-inch alloy wheels complete the highly-successful design makeover.

There are no plans to sell the MX-5 Spyder in the UK as yet, but its rapturous reception in LA could persuade the car maker to put it into production.
