These are the first official details and pictures of the limited edition Mazda MX-5 Miyako, which goes on sale July 1 priced from £18,385.

The MX-5 Miyako celebrates the model's 20th anniversary and will be available as a soft-top or hard-top Roadster Coupe. Just 500 examples of each version will come to the UK.

Both models are fitted with unique Medici perforated black leather trim with a red underlay and stitching, special-edition badging, climate control, front fog lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels and a front suspension strut brace for improved handling.

The soft top model is powered by a 124bhp 1.8-litre engine and is capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds, while the roadster gets a 158bhp 2-litre engine which can cut 0-62mph time by two seconds.

Fuel consumption is set at 40.4 and 38.2mpg respectively, while CO2 emissions are set at 167 and 177g/km.

Both will be available in Aluminium silver metallic paint, while the soft-top will also be available in Velocity Red Mica at no additional cost.

The name 'Miyako' is taken from the Japanese holiday island of Miyako-jima, which is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful spots in Japan.

Mazda MX-5 Miyako pricing:
1.8 Miyako Soft Top: £18,385
2.0 Miyako Roadster Coupe: £20,885
