Saab saga continues

Like a gripping novel, the Saab story, both here and in Sweden continues with its series of twist and turns. As a number of companies (Youngman, Brightwell-holdings and an as yet un-named European automobile manufacturer) continue to try and save the brand, the dealer network is unravelling.

Down to just under 90 sites, many of the longest serving and largest outlets have closed their doors for the last time. But the announcement of new entity Saab Automobile Parts UK Ltd, could be a boost for those remaining hopeful for the future.

Parts supply is set to improve, and the firm is currently purchasing around 1,000 new and nearly new cars from Saab GB's creditors to be sold through the remaining network. MD Charles Toosey said, "The service network is intact and still busy servicing Saabs and these cars remain high quality premium products, while parts availability is improving."

But whatever happens to the brand, it seems the Saab 9-5 is to remain a rare sight here in the UK. Previously Saab's former parent company GM had said it wouldn't allow any Chinese buyer the license to allow them to build the model, but has now reviewed that statement to include any future savior of the firm.
