This is the first picture of the Saab 9-5 SportWagon estate ahead of its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Featuring wrap-around tinted rear windows it has a distinctive look, which makes it instantly recognisable as a Saab.
Load space increases to 527 litres (from the saloon's 515-litres) or 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded down. The side walls are flat with no wheelarch intrusions, and compartments are provided to allow storage of small items.
A U-shaped runner is an optional extra, with a dividing rail to allow the load space to be partitioned. The tailgate is available with a remotely-controlled electric power operation for extra convenience.
The LED rear lights are connected by a light bar spanning across the boot, while large chrome tailpipes add a sporting edge.
Slender roof rails are fitted as standard, and there's a shark-fin aerial and rear spoiler which add to the SportWagon's sleek lines.
Power will come from the same engine line-up as the saloon, with turbo petrol motors including a 1.6, 2.0 and 2.8-litre. The diesel offering is a 2-litre with 188bhp.
Technical highlights include XWD four-wheel drive, Saab DriveSense adaptive chassis control, adaptive cruise control (in late 2012), adaptive headlights, keyless entry and start, tri-zone air-con and a Head-up Display which projects information onto the windscreen.
Prices are expected to be several thousand pounds more than the equivalent saloon, which currently starts from £26,995. Order books for the 9-5 SportWagon open in Spring, with first deliveries expected in September.
