This is the five-seat Ford B-MAX, which will go head-to-head with the Vauxhall Meriva.

Its latest model features an innovative design, with no pillar between the front and rear doors, allowing unrivalled access to all its seats.

Ford has fitted side doors strengthened with Boron steel and special hinges, to ensure they stay together in a crash an absorb the impact traditionally dealt with by a car's 'B pillar'.

Despite being only 11 cm longer than a Ford Fiesta, it should offer much more space for passengers and luggage. It's 32 cm shorter than the Ford C-MAX.

The B-MAX also features a new 1-litre three-cylinder engine which is turbocharged and features stop and start to save fuel in traffic. Ford claims new technology brings significant cuts to emissions and boosts fuel economy.

Interior design follows the lead of the Fiesta, which features a central console inspired by mobile phone design. It's enhanced with the addition of a six-inch touch-screen display.
