Respected German tuner MTM has announced its latest headline-grabber - the Audi R8 GT3-2 - with radical changes from the standard car.

The full package converts the Audi R8 from four- to rear-wheel drive, and increases power to 560bhp courtesy of a supercharger and sports exhaust. Top speed is quoted as being 197mph, 10mph more than standard.

With used Audi R8s available on Auto Trader from around £57k, and UK company QS Tuning offering the MTM engine upgrade for £22,700, that means you could get your hands on a car quicker than a Ferrari F430 for just over half the price.

You'll have to spend more to get the full GT3-2 spec car though, with its weight-saving two-wheel drive, bodykit, wheels and suspension upgrades. Carbon fibre body trim, including a huge rear wing, give the Audi's lines a track-refugee design style.

As well as saving weight, the move to two-wheel drive should radically change the handling of MTM's take on Audi's supercar.
