Peugeot has revived its GTI badge with the latest version of its 308 hatchback. The Peugeot 308 GTI will be powered by a 200bhp 1.6-litre THP petrol engine, which we will soon see propelling its RC-Z coupe.
This efficient engine combines turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve timing with a 6-speed manual gearbox, to deliver 41mpg and 159g/km of CO2.
This tech gives it a respectable performance boost over the current range-topping 1.6-litre model, with initial figures claiming it is capable of going from 0-62mph in just 7.7 seconds
The 308 GTI gets a new styling pack, which incorporates a new front bumper, rear spoiler, twin chrome tailpipes and GTI badging, while on the inside there's an aluminium gear knob and a leather sport steering wheel. It also comes with 18-inch alloys and ESP, including dynamic stability control and emergency brake assist, as standard.
The five-door only model sits 10mm lower than the standard hatch, has a slightly revised suspension and adopts Sound System technology, for improved engine noise.
The GTI revival marks a momentous turnaround for the manufacturer, after recently stating the badge was set for retirement.
The Peugeot 308 GTi will be launched on June 10 in France, priced at €26,900. Peugeot has yet to confirm whether it will make it over to the UK in its current form.
