Ford has announced a performance upgrade for the current Focus RS. The news comes days after all 101 right-hand drive Ford Focus RS500 limited-edition cars sold out in record time for a new Ford model the UK, despite costing £35,450 each.

Ford's add-on kit will allow owners of the 'normal' Ford Focus RS to match the 345bhp output of the rare RS500 - a substantial 40bhp increase.

This means 0-62mph acceleration drops from the 5.9 seconds of the standard RS to 5.6 seconds, and top speed climbs by 2mph to 165mph.

It comprises a larger engine intercooler, air filter, exhaust downpipe, an upgraded fuel pump and tweaks to the engine management software and has been developed in partnership with Mountune Performance.

The price for all this power is £1,995, and because it's an official upgrade, the standard warranty is not affected.

Potential customers will also be pleased to know the kit has been subjected to a full testing and durability programme.

Mountune Performance has already launched well-received power and handling upgrades for the Ford Fiesta ST, Fiesta Zetec-S and Focus ST.

Its latest product will allow the many customers who couldn't get hold of a Ford Focus RS500, the same level of performance, albeit less exclusivity.

With more than 100 used Ford Focus RS' available on Auto Trader from around £24k, a 345bhp fast Ford could be on your drive for under £30k.
