Mini has released details of its revised model range, which arrives in September. The biggest development is a 1.6-litre diesel engine, in the 89bhp Mini One D and 110bhp Cooper D.

Both derivatives are capable of returning 74.3mpg while emitting a road tax-eliminating 99g/km of CO2 - a first for any BMW Group engine.

Both models get start and stop, brake energy regeneration, gearshift indicator, a diesel particulate filter and a standard six-speed manual 'box.

The new line-up also includes the first diesel-powered Mini convertible, with the 110bhp Cooper D engine. It will do 70 mpg and emit 105g/km of CO2 - making it the most efficient 'full' convertible in the UK today.

The Clubman will also feature the new engines, for 72.4mpg and 103g/km. Styling changes for the hatch, convertible and Clubman include revised bumpers and lighting plus LED brake lights which vary in brightness according to the deceleration force applied.

On the inside, there's a new audio system with MP3 connectivity and DAB radio as standard, while the centre console, steering wheel, air-con and audio controls have all been redesigned.

The optional Mini Connected system has been updated to allow iPhone users to access internet radio, RSS news feeds, Facebook and Twitter messages, play videos on the central display and send SMS messages via voice control.

For maximum personalisation, there are five new paint colours, five new alloy designs, six new upholstery choices, three fascia options and two new colour lines for the side and door panels.
