The new Ford C-Max will costs from £16,475 when it goes on sale in the UK next month. The redesigned C-Max - Ford's five- and seven-seat compact people carrier - will range from £16,475 to £23,245 and will be offered in a simplified range of just two trim levels: Zetec and Titanium.

The new car will replace the outgoing seven-year-old design, and will now be able to compete with seven-seat rivals like the Renault Megane Grand Scenic, Citroen C4 and Peugeot 5008 in bigger, Grand C-Max form. This has room for seven adults and features twin sliding rear side doors, which are powered electrically in Titanium versions.

The £19,745 Grand C-Max 1.6-litre TDCi Zetec diesel is expected to be the biggest seller in Britain. Other versions of the C-Max will get a newly developed 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, working with a six-speed gearbox which is also new and will be used with some diesel versions.

Titanium buyers get automatic headlamps and front wipers, duel temperature controls, auto dimming rear view mirror, keyless entry, cruise control with speed limiter and a tyre deflation detection system.

According to Ford, the latest C-Max has equipment also destined for next year's all-new Focus.
