The next-generation BMW X3 has been caught in the wild while undergoing final testing before its launch later this year.
Despite the psychedelic disguise, it's clear to see that BMW's mid-sized SUV doesn't stray too far from the design formula of the smaller X1 and larger X5. More conventional styling than the current Chris-Bangle designed model is expected.
The X3 will also grow slightly in size to place it more centrally between its two siblings yet will be lighter than before to help improve performance, fuel economy and handling. It is the first model to use the new 3 Series' platform.
Standard and M Sport versions will be available as shown in the gallery below, while four- and six-cylinder diesel and petrol engines will make for an extensive model range. There is also the possibility of a high-performance X3 M version.
The car will make its debut at the Paris motor show in October, with UK sales starting in early 2011.
