Moving Motor Show: preview
The Moving Motor Show, which takes place on Thursday 30 June, may only be in its second year supporting the well established Goodwood Festival of Speed, but it is fast becoming recognised as one of the best new car events on the international motoring calendar.
Anybody who has managed to visit Lord March's famous driveway in Chichester, West Sussex, will tell you that hosting a motor show here offers an exciting and unanticipated dynamic. Gone are the desert waste lands of some nowhere exhibition centre for the most picturesque setting this side of Pebble Beach. Plus the best bit is that crowds can not just get up close to the latest new metal, a privileged few can even drive the cars up the famous 1.16-mile hillclimb.
Why was the Moving Motor Show created?
As early as 2007, there was a recognised appetite for such an event. More and more frequently, car manufacturers were using the Goodwood Festival of Speed to showcase new products as well as celebrate the old. In 2008 for example, Jaguar stunned attendees by driving a never-seen-before prototype version of the XFR up Goodwood hill, much to the surprise and amazement of the world's press.
In 2010, Lord March launched the first Moving Motor Show and the people and manufacturers that flocked to this first event have helped form the nucleus of what is now cemented as a serious automotive fixture in its own right.
So what can we expect to see this year?
Lots! We have manufacturers on display as diverse as Ford to Ferrari, Morgan to MINI, all of whom are previewing the latest models to hit UK showrooms in the very near future.
This sounds amazing, how do I attend?
Around 150,000 people are expected to visit the famous Goodwood grounds between 30 June and 3 July and the event is a sell out every year.
And just in case you can't make it, our expert editorial team will be reporting LIVE from the Moving Motor Show on all the coolest cars, jaw-dropping concepts and even celeb-spotting a few rock-star racing drivers that will be taking on the famous hillclimb. We'll even try to blag a drive in something, which of course we'll tell you about, petrol fumes and all.
