The Toyota Avensis has been given a revised range of engines and option packs. There are two new engines available - the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol Valvematic and all-round 2.2-litre D-CAT 150.
1.6-litre Valvematic
• Goes from 0-62mph in 10.4 seconds in the saloon and 10.6 seconds in the tourer
• Reaches 43.5mpg
• Emits 152g/km of CO2 in the saloon and 153g/km in the tourer, placing them both into tax band G at £150 per year
• Available in T2 and TR models from £16,485, following a £400 price increase
2.2-litre D-CAT 150
• Goes from 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds in the saloon and 9.8 seconds in the tourer
• Reaches 44.1mpg
• Saloon emits 169g/km of CO2 and tourer emits 174g/km, placing them both into tax band H at £175 per year
• Available in TR models from £21,515
Top-of-the-line T Spirit models now have in-built sat navs with 10GB hard drives as standard. A new safety pack has been added as an optional extra which uses a radar to predict collisions and warn the driver. If a crash is unavoidable it applies the brakes and triggers the seatbelt pre-tensioners.
The pack also includes Adaptive Cruise Control, which automatically keeps the Avensis a set distance from the car in front. And Lane Keep Assist alerts the driver if they are steering out of lane. Due to popular demand the 1.8-litre Valvematic engines have been added to the T2, TR and T4 model range.
Toyota's previous 2.0-litre D-4D 130 engine remains the most economical with an average fuel consumption of 55.4mpg. The 2.2-litre D-4D 150 engine is the fastest with a 0-62mph acceleration time of 8.9seconds and a top speed of 131mph. Prices for the Avensis start from £16,485.
