It's hair-straighteners at dawn - a tuner has modified an Audi TT to produce more power than the new drop-top Ferrari California.

Avus Performance has taken Audi's hottest new firecracker - the 340bhp Audi TT RS - and tuned it to produce a whopping 460bhp and 472lb/ft of pulling power. That's 10bhp more than the sexy Ferrari California and just 20bhp off the Nissan GT-R's power output.

Avus claims a 0-60mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 194mph, making this officially the world's fastest 2.5-litre lip-gloss holder. And it's only 4mph slower than the V10-powered £100,000 Audi R8 supercar.

The transformation from TT RS into Ferrari-basher comes courtesy of an ECU upgrade, a modified turbo and a specially made exhaust system.

Probably conscious of the Audi TT's somewhat 'feminine' market, Avus has helpfully kitted the 460bhp beast with a range of body styling parts to leave passers by in doubt as to the driver's sexuality.

You get a matt black paint job - which, frankly, looks superb - adjustable coilover suspension which lowers the car, and 20-inch gloss black Sportec Mono wheels.

Prices for the paint job, wheels and suspension come to £9k, while the ECU upgrade price is on request.
