The wraps have just been taken off the new Mini Coupe and Mini Roadster concepts in Germany to a huge fanfare - with Mini wanting more than just one piece of Audi's TT pie.

Both models look really good in the metal, although we're not too sure about the Coupe's 'backwards baseball cap' look. Each model is 6cm lower than the standard Mini, helping to reduce weight and lower the cars' centre of gravity.

The Coupe gets the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine from the John Cooper Works meaning 211bhp while the Roadster uses the Cooper S's 175bhp lump.

There's good news for the British car industry too, as both models will be built at the company's Oxford factory.

Mini had previously announced plans for the Coupe but kept the Roadster a secret until today. The Coupe is the more hardcore of the pair with the Roadster, certainly in white, really looking the part on display.

It's yet another model to spawn from the ever-growing Mini range which has sold more than 1.5 million cars since its relaunch in 2001. These two models, along with the new Peugeot RCZ, could genuinely give prospective Audi TT buyers something to think about.
