A 143bhp diesel version of the MINI Cooper S has gone on sale, featuring the largest engine ever fitted to a car wearing MINI badges.
The 2-litre Mini Cooper SD is being offered in Hatch, Convertible, Clubman and Countryman forms, with prices starting at £18,750 for the hatch.
That 143bhp gives the MINI Cooper SD a 134mph top speed for the hatch, while the 225lb/ft of pulling power provides a 0-62mph time of 8.1 seconds.
Despite such strong performance, the MINI Cooper SD is also economical and clean, with the hatch capable of 65.7mpg and CO2 emissions of just 114g/km.
Such impressive figures are largely down to the standard fitment of energy-saving features such as stop and start, brake energy regeneration and electric power steering, among others.
The full MINI Cooper SD line up is as follows:
· Hatch (£18,750): 134mph, 8.1 secs, 65.7 mpg, 114g/km CO2
· Clubman (£19,790): 134mph, 8.6 secs, 64.2 mpg, 115 g/km CO2
· Convertible (£21,130): 130mph, 8.7 secs, 62.8 mpg, 118g/km CO2
· Countryman (£21,970): 123mph, 9.3 secs, 61.4 mpg, 122g/km CO2
· Countryman ALL4 (£23,190): 121mph, 9.4 secs, 57.6 mpg, 130g/km CO2
To differentiate the MINI Cooper SD from its lesser siblings, it's fitted with reprofiled bumpers and an extra-large air intake, twin exhausts and a distinctive rear spoiler.
From April, buyers of any MINI Hatch or Convertible will be able to upgrade their car's looks with a Sport Pack, which adds exterior design features as well as chassis upgrades.
Also included are interior upgrades such as red highlights, sports seats and gloss black inserts. Based on the John Cooper Works package, the Sport Pack also brings 17-inch alloy wheels to beef up the exterior looks.
