This is the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe, a sleek two-door version of the hugely fast C63 AMG saloon and estate that will go head-to-head with the BMW M3 Coupe.

The star of the show is still its 6.2-litre V8, but power has been ramped up to 487bhp (up 30bhp), thanks to some Mercedes SLS AMG-derived tech and new lightweight components. The result is a crushing zero to 62mph time of 4.4 seconds.

A seven-speed automatic gearbox is standard, along with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Average fuel consumption is a credit card-threatening 23.5mpg, while emissions are no better, proudly perched in the top tax band at 280g/km of CO2.

There's sports suspension and speed-sensitive steering, plus this AMG model is the only model in the C-Class Coupe range which allows you to turn off the electronic stability programme (ESP) completely. Make sure you drop a brave pill if you do.

The nose has been thoroughly re-designed taking inspiration from the Mercedes SL63 AMG. It also features LED daytime running lights, side air-vents, clear-lens headlights, titanium grey 18-inch alloy wheels and a black rear bumper diffuser.

Inside, figure hugging AMG seats are standard, while the dashboard is lavished with leather, brushed aluminium and piano black inserts. There's also a colour TFT trip computer and a flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel.

The COMAND interface gets an upgrade and can now display text messages, play music via Bluetooth and USB and connect to the internet when the car is stationary.

Expect the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe to be in showrooms this summer, although pricing is yet to be revealed.
