The Maserati GranCabrio will make its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Bearing a striking resemblance to the GranTurismo - but without a roof - it will be shown to the world for the first time on September 15.
The Maserati GranCabrio joins their stable as the company's third model, along with the GranTurismo and Quattroporte. It shares the same 4.7-litre V8 found in the GranTurismo. Maserati has not confirmed the power output of the GranCabrio but a figure close to the GranTurismo's 440bhp is likely.
Maserati claims rear passenger room in the four-seater convertible will not be compromised. In their words: "The rear passengers are not merely supporting actors, but co-stars of the journey."
The GranCabrio joins a long line of Maserati convertibles, including the 1950 A6G Frua Spyder, 1960 3500GT Vignale Spyder, 1964 Mistral Spyder, 1968 Ghibli Spyder and Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed 2001 Spyder. The GranCabrio will go on sale early in 2010.
