Significant alterations to the M25 and its surrounding network, over the next 30 years at a cost of £6.2bn, will be undertaken by a single supplier, selected by the Highways Agency.
Connect Plus - a private sector consortium of Skanska, Balfour Beatty, Atkins and Egis - will be responsible for work on Britain's busiest motorway.
This includes two widening projects underway between junctions 16-23 and 27-30, which are due to be finished in time for the 2012 Olympics.
More than 4,000 new jobs will also be created during widening and refurbishment work of the Hatfield tunnel on the A1(M), which began in June.
The supplier will also be responsible for the Dartford River Crossing. Over the next 30 years the £6.2bn contract is aimed at keeping the South East moving.
