The SSC Ultimate Aero TT's reign as the world's fastest car could be over after the Keating TKR hit an unofficial 260.1mph. We know what you're thinking: Keating TKR?

Keating is a Manchester-based car maker which launched its SKR sports car last year. But while the SKR had a 5-litre V8 engine with 400bhp, the Keating TKR has a 7-litre V8 developing a hysterical 1,800bhp.

Official performance figures are yet to be released but the TKR hit 260.1mph during testing at the Mojave Desert in California.

The SSC Ultimate Aero TT hit 257mph in 2007, averaging 255.83mph after two runs using satellites to record the record.

Keating now plans to take the TKR back to the USA to make an official attempt at the record which should give SSC - which claims its new Aero TT can hit 270mph - something to think about.

The Keating TKR is on display at this year's MPH Show which kicks off at Earl's Court tonight. We'll be at the show so don't forget to come back for our photo bonanza tomorrow.
