F1 world champion Jenson Button could be about to lose his seat with Brawn as the team has been taken over by Mercedes.

Mercedes is bringing in Williams driver Nico Rosberg as one of its drivers and is believed to be after another German driver - possibly Nick Heidfeld - for the second seat.

Jenson Button is tipped to move to McLaren to pair up 2008 world champion and fellow Briton Lewis Hamilton.

Mercedes last ran its own F1 team in 1955 when it counted British hero Stirling Moss among its drivers. It began supplying the McLaren F1 team with engines in 1995 and later bought a minority stake in the team.

It will sell that stake to take over Brawn. However Mercedes will continue to supply McLaren with its V8 F1 engines until 2015.

McLaren and Mercedes have also gone their separate ways off the track. McLaren built the Mercedes SLR at the McLaren Technology Centre in Britain but is now producing its own - the McLaren MP4-12C - while Mercedes turned to in-house tuning arm AMG to build the Mercedes SLS.
