After launching the Jaguar C-X75 concept car at the 2010 Paris Motor show, Jaguar has confirmed that it will go into production in 2013.

While the concept car used jet turbines to produce its power, the road-going version will have a small but highly turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors - one for the front wheels, and one for the rear. Jaguar claims it will be able to drive in electric-only mode for around 30 miles.

It will boast sub-three second zero to 60mph acceleration and a 200mph top speed, but thanks to its electric drive and small petrol engine it should emit less than 100g/km of CO2, making it by far the quickest tax-free and London Congestion Charge exempt car.

Carbon fibre will feature heavily in its construction to keep it lightweight and Williams F1 - famous for its Formula 1 team - will collaborate with Jaguar in the C-X75's production, which will take place in the UK.

Jaguar's first supercar since the XJ220 went out of production in 1994 is going to sit at the top of the current range, comprising of the XF executive saloon, XK coupe and convertible and XJ luxury saloon.

Only 250 will be built and Jaguar is already taking reservations. Prices are expected to be between £700,000 and £900,000, depending on the local market and taxes in the country of purchase.

The announcement to build the Jaguar C-X75 comes shortly after news that Tata, which owns Jaguar Land Rover, will be investing heavily in the manufacturer over the next five years.
