Hyundai has issued a recall for selected Santa Fe and Trajet models, due to potential suspension problems.

The recall affects Santa Fe models built between July 2000 and June 2005, plus Trajets produced between January 2000 and May 2004. These cars could have suffered corrosion that may affect the structural integrity of suspension trailing arms, caused by winter road salt conditions in the UK.

Some 17,000 first-generation Trajet and Santa Fe models are affected, with Hyundai claiming that just a small proportion of older cars will need replacement trailing arms. The repair will be carried out free of charge and alternative transport will be provided for owners during the repair.

This recall is voluntary and owners have been notified by letter.

You can check if your vehicle has been subject to an official safety recall campaign by visiting the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency's website and inputting your car's:
• Make and model
• Date of registration
• Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
• Engine number

Check the service history or contact the car's manufacturer to ensure repair work has been completed. If the work has not been completed, the manufacturer will advise you. For up-to-date recall information, visit the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) recall search.
