Hyundai and Toyota have announced their own scrappage schemes, giving buyers more time to receive a £2,000 discount.
The offers will continue to run when government funding for the scrappage scheme dries up on February 28.
Hyundai's 'trade and upgrade' scheme gives owners of cars between seven and ten years old £2,000 towards a new Hyundai.
Drivers who have already bought a Hyundai i10, i20 or i30 under the scrappage scheme will have the option to upgrade to a new 10-plate model in March. They will also receive a £250 Hyundai discount voucher for a friend or relative.
Buyers who upgrade will get a new five-year warranty and avoid the cost of the first service and tax disc. Upgraded i20s will get an improved interior and ESP as standard. The upgrade price for qualifying models is as follows:
• Hyundai i10 - £499
• Hyundai i20 - £599
• Hyundai i30 - £749
Toyota is running a similar scheme - 'swappage' - which gives owners of seven to ten-year-old cars £2,000 off a new Toyota Avensis, Verso, Yaris or Auris.
Further discounts are available on the Avensis, with £500 off the T2 and a £750 discount on the TR and T4.
Buyers have until March 31 to order a new Toyota under the scheme.
Expect more manufacturers to introduce their own schemes over the coming weeks.
