The sporty new Skoda Fabia vRS will cost from £15,700 when UK sales start on July 29. The Fabia vRS features the same 178bhp turbo- and supercharged 1.4-litre engine as the Seat Ibiza Cupra and the upcoming Volkswagen Polo GTI.
However, unlike the Seat and VW, the Fabia is available with five doors and as an estate, making it more practical then either.
A seven-speed, twin-clutch DSG gearbox is fitted as standard while a whole host of electronic aids, including an electronic differential control, should help the front wheels cope with the power. Top speed is 139mph for the hatchback and 140mph in the estate, with both accelerating from 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds.
Despite the strong performance, fuel economy is rated at 45.6mpg combined, while CO2 emissions are 148 g/km.
Both models are fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, rear privacy glass, sports seats and an iPod connection. Choose the hatchback and you can also specify your roof in either black or white, while the £16,495 estate is finished in a single colour.
