The Audi A1 is now available with a 2-litre TDI diesel engine as well as two new trim levels.

With 141bhp the new diesel motor has 37bhp more than the existing 1.6 TDI A1. It can accelerate from zero to 62mph in 8.2 seconds, over two seconds faster than the 1.6 TDI, and has a top speed of 135mph.

Costing from £17,945 the A1 2.0 TDI goes head-to-head with the MINI Hatch Cooper SD, which is just a tenth of a second quicker to 62mph, and costs from £19,070.

The A1 averages 68.9mpg while emitting 108g/km of CO2, making it cheaper to run than the MINI, which gets 65.7mpg and emits 114g/km of CO2. The 1.6 TDI A1 manages 74.3mpg and 99g/km.

The A1 2.0 TDI is available in Sport, S line and two new trim levels called Black Edition and Contrast Edition, which will also be available on other A1 models. It joins an engine line-up which includes a 1.2 TFSI petrol with 85bhp and a 1.4 TFSI petrol with either 120bhp or 183bhp.

Contrast Edition is available for a premium over the Sport trim level and adds a contrasting colour to the roof line and aerodynamic body trim as well as 17-inch alloy wheels and an optional double-blade rear spoiler. It's available on all A1s except for the 1.4 TFSI 185.

Black Edition is available for a premium over the S line trim exclusively with the range-topping 1.4 TFSI 185 and 2.0 TDI engines. The grille is painted black and the rear glass is given a dark tint.

The wheels are increased in size to 18-inches and given a titanium finish, while Xenon Plus headlights with LED daytime-running lights are fitted. Inside, full climate control and the Audi Sound System speaker upgrade is fitted with 180 watts output.
