These are the first pictures of the new Kia Picanto and Rio, which have been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

The all-new Kia Picanto will go on sale later this year and will be offered for the first time in three- and five-door guise.

The Picanto is now 60mm longer with 36mm more front legroom and 27 per cent more boot space, up to 200 litres.

Power will be provided by a choice of three petrol engines: a 68bhp 1-litre, 84bhp 1.25-litre and a 81bhp 1-litre bi-fuel unit, which will use a mix of petrol and LPG.

The range-topping 1.25-litre option will accelerate from 0-62mph in 11.4 seconds, have a fuel consumption of 65.8mpg and emit 105g/km of CO2 (100g/km with ISG automatic transmission). The hybrid version is reported to return 47.9mpg and emit 95 g/km (90g/km with ISG).

The new Kia Rio is 20mm longer, 25mm wider and 15mm lower than the outgoing model, and will also be offered for the first time with three or five doors. For maximum practicality the boot space is 100mm wider and the capacity has increased to 288 litres - seven per cent more than the previous generation version.

The new Rio is also said to have low running costs and class-leading CO2 emissions, with initial figures expected to start at 85g/km.

It will be offered with a choice of four three- and four-cylinder engines. Petrol buyers can choose between a 1.25-litre and 1.4-litre engine, while diesel options will be a 1.1-litre and 1.4-litre unit. They will produce between 69 and 108bhp and fuel consumption of up to 88.3mpg.
