Full details and prices for the new Volvo S60 have been released ahead of the car's arrival in July. Priced from £23,295, it fits between mainstream family cars like the Ford Mondeo and junior executive saloons, typified by the BMW 3 Series.

At first the S60 will be available with two diesel engines - a five-cylinder, 2-litre D3 with 161bhp and fuel economy of 54.3 mpg and a twin-turbo D5 unit with 202bhp - and one petrol engine in the form of the T6.

This 3-litre engine produces 301bhp and powers the new S60 from 0-62mph in just 6.5 seconds and on to 155mph. This engine is only offered with a Geartronic automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

Three trim levels - ES, SE and SE Lux - are available. All models feature front, side and head airbags, stability control and 'City Safety', which applies the brakes automatically at speeds up to 19mph if the car in front stops.

On top of this, Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake is available for £1,350. This system detects other vehicles and pedestrians, and can stop the car from speeds up to 21mph.

All models feature climate control, cruise control and alloy wheels. For an additional £2,000 over the base ES models, SE spec adds some aluminium interior trim, automatic wipers, a better stereo, Bluetooth and bigger alloys.

Meanwhile the range-topping SE Lux adds electric front seats, leather trim and active lights for £800. A Premium pack featuring leather upholstery, satellite navigation a DAB radio and a high-end stereo is also available for £2,000.
