The most important concept car launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show is the Ford Evos. Short for Evolution, the Evos shows the way for all new Fords launched over the coming months and years. In fact, hints of the Evos will be seen in the next all new model - said to be the Ford B-Max mini-MPV - which will debut in four months' time.

The Evos isn't a designer and engineer's folly though. The equipment fitted - or at least hinted at being fitted - inside and under the bonnet is already being developed. Expect to see Ford's first plug-in hybrid soon, more of a cockpit feel for the driver and improved functionality and connectivity inside the car.

The Evos is a stunning four-door coupe with gullwing doors that will inform the design of, and technology fitted to, all new Ford models launched over the next five to ten years. It might look like a coupe, but Ford is keen to point out it doesn't hint at a new Capri being launched.

The car showcases the new, corporate front end which sees smaller front and rear lights and a grille mounted higher on the nose for a more upmarket look. Other features that'll appear in upcoming models include more slender windscreen pillars and simplified lines along the car's profile.

Most of the kit fitted in the Evos is currently in development. Ford is keen to move many of the interior controls into a touch screen, but more radical ideas include seats which monitor the driver's heart rate and 'cloud' connectivity which allows the driver access to personal information held on the home computer. This information could also tailor how the car drives. The concept is powered by a plug-in hybrid engine, althoug
