The Ford Mondeo has been given a range of new engines for improved fuel economy, lower emissions and more performance.
Upgrades include a new Ecoboost turbocharged petrol engine, an improved diesel line-up and Ford's six-speed dual-clutch Powershift transmission, which is being made available for the first time on the Mondeo.
The 200bhp 2-litre Ecoboost petrol engine delivers 221lb/ft of torque and is capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds (8.2 for the estate) and on to a top speed of 144mph. It comes with a dual-clutch transmission as standard.
The Ecoboost engine returns 36.6mpg and emits 179g/km of CO2 - 19 per cent less than the outgoing 2.3-litre unit, despite being 25 per cent more powerful.
Ford has also revised its Duratorq 2-litre TDCi diesels, which is available in three derivatives: 113, 138 and 161bhp. All variants are equipped with a six-speed manual 'box, while Powershift auto is available as an option on the 138 and 161bhp units.
All power outputs deliver 53.2mpg while emitting 139g/km of CO2. There is no longer a dedicated Econetic model and the 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine has beeen discontinued. The upgraded Ford Mondeo range is on sale now.
