Ford is launching a special edition Sport version of the current Focus, which will be sold next year after the new Focus arrives.

The Focus Sport, available with either 1.6 petrol or diesel engines will be offered until the end of 2011 in five-door guise.

Standard equipment for the Sport includes voice control, parking sensors, automatic lights, wipers and dimming rear view mirror, satellite navigation, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and 16-inch alloy wheels.

According to Ford, the car costs £700 more than the equivalent Focus Zetec, but has £1,500 worth of additional kit.

The Focus sells in Europe's biggest car category, competing against models like the Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Astra, Renault Megane, Toyota Auris, Fiat Bravo, Alfa Romeo Giuilietta, Kia ceed and Hyundai i30, Honda Civic, Citroen C4 and Peugeot 308.

On-the-road prices are £16,545 for the 1.6-litre petrol and £17,845 for the 1.6-litre TDCi diesel.
