The Ford Fiesta - the best-selling car of 2010 so far - has been given a mid-life makeover with new engines, specs and improved efficiency.

Petrol power is provided by three improved units: an 81bhp 1.25-litre, 94bhp 1.6-litre and 118bhp 1.6-litre Ti-VCT, providing an average improvement in emissions of 4g/km CO2.

This means the entry-level 1.25-litre unit qualifies for a lower VED band, making it free to tax for the first year.

All diesels are fitted with DPF - diesel particulate filters - for improved emissions and lower road tax. The 1.6-litre TDCI gets a power boost to 94bhp, whilst a 69bhp 1.4-litre TDCi will join the line-up from August.
All models now get ESP, worth £300, as standard.

Entry-level Studio models come with heated door mirrors, steering-mounted controls, aux-in jack and two additional speakers. Range-topping Titanium models now have Bluetooth and USB connection as standard.
