Fiat is launching two new models under its sporting Abarth brand. Both the cheeky 500C convertible and recently updated Punto Evo have been given the scorpion treatment.
The Abarth Punto Evo features a similarly redesigned nose to the Fiat version with a wide horizontal bar through its front bumper and a slimmer grill above. Its rear bumper with integrated diffuser and tail lamps have also been freshened up. But the biggest changes are under the skin.
Under the bonnet sits the latest MultiAir 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, first seen in the Alfa Romeo MiTo. It not only improves performance but also economy thanks to its stop and start system. An SS kit is also available, which raises power to 178bhp.
Meanwhile the Abarth 500C brings sporty thrills and open-top fun to take on the Mini Cooper and Cooper S convertible.
The 500C is available in two two-tone paint finishes to emphasise the concept of the car's lower half being that of a sporty hot hatch and its upper half a more elegant convertible. The electric roll-back roof is fitted with a glass rear screen and available in either black or dark grey.
A new semi-automatic gearbox called MTA (Manual Transmission Automated), which is controlled by paddles behind the steering wheel will be available for the first time. An SS kit is also being readied for the 500C, with around 160bhp.
Both models go on sale later this summer and while prices have yet to be announced, the Fiat 500C attracts a £3,000 premium over the hatchback. If the same rule applies to the Abarth, the prices should start from around £16,600.
