BMW has announced the most powerful version of its Z4 sportscar to date: the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is. It packs a tweaked version of the standard Zed's 3-litre twin-turbo engine to produce 335bhp - up from 306bhp - and 332lb/ft of pulling power. And under 'heavy loads' - or full throttle - that pulling power hits 369lb/ft.

With its new-found muscle the sDrive35is sprints from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds and runs on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph, matching the V8-powered BMW M3's sprint time.

Despite this prodigious power output, BMW claims an average fuel consumption of 21.6mpg, thanks to a combination of stop-start technology, brake energy regeneration and electric power steering all falling under BMWs 'EfficientDynamics' umbrella.

The new Z4 comes with BMW's seven-speed automatic gearbox, together with adjustable M-Sport suspension, which lowers the car by 10mm and offers 'Sport' and 'Sport+' driving modes.

The sDrive35is also comes with a uniquely tailored exhaust system to create a 'low frequency' sound distinctive to this range-topping model. Special exhaust flaps and modified rear silencers ensure the Z4 is never 'annoying' but offers a "particularly deep rumble with the focus above all on the low frequency range".

The standard-fit M-Sport package also includes 19-inch alloys, new front and rear bumpers, an 'M' leather steering wheel, footrest and sports seats, plus aluminium carbon trim, a choice of new 'Kansas Walnut' leather and six exterior paint colours.

BMW will announce prices closer to the launch date, but the current range-topping Z4 sDrive35i costs £37,065.
