The pinned-to-your-seat speeds of a supercar hold a hypnotic appeal, but the cars' prices keep the dream from becoming a reality. But a custom built Dax Raptor F85 on sale on Auto Trader offers Ferrari Enzo-like acceleration for a fraction of the price.
This £34,995 Dax Raptor F85 is a one-off creation by Nigel Dean, who has timed the car's acceleration to 60mph in just 3.36 seconds, and he reckons it can go even quicker. Power comes from a massive 4.6-litre V8 Rover engine, remastered and rebuilt from the ground up.
Nigel has taken 18 months to build this pocket monster, which looks very similar to the Caterham Seven it is based on. The aim was to make the car as quick as possible, but without the brutal costs normally associated with speed.
He claims it costs just £200 a year to tax, £150 a year to service and just £300 to insure his creation and is also capable of around 25mpg when driven sensibly.
It hasn't been formally tested, but Nigel estimates that the Dax produces a huge 350bhp and 350 lb/ft of pulling power, a lot considering it weighs just 700kg.
